BIO
Scott Smith pays homage to the music, artists and history of our past. His sophisticated and easy style flows with the music of the 1920s, ’30s, ’40s and ’50s. Scott learned the art of entertaining while playing for the troops in Thailand and backing up Bob Hope in USO shows. The sixties and early seventies were a wonderful era for a young musician. It was during that time he decided to play the music he had always loved, Jazz, Swing and Blues. Strong influences are Billie Holiday, Mel Tormé, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway and of course Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, just to mention a few.
Scott perfected his skills learning to play jazz from Gladys E. Palmer, the last pianist to tour with Billie Holiday. He’s performed in the finest restaurants and private clubs around the world since he was 17 years of age, and has been a warm-up act for Dionne Warwick and recently shared a venue with Dwight Yoakam in Dallas.
THE MUSIC
Scott sings in a style that’s reminiscent of Mel Tormé, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole. He plays the Grand Piano and left hand Bass. No computers or sequencing is used. Everything is happening in the moment. Never plays a piece the same way twice. In addition to his musical talent, he is an entertainer with the power to connect to his audiences and keep them spellbound and happy.
Some of the people who have been in his audience: Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, The Mills Brothers, Betty White, Michael Jordan, Steffan Grappelli, Mickey Mantle, Willie Shoemaker, Mario Andretti, Tennessee Williams, James Caan, Sam Peckinpah, and many others.
TESTIMONIALS
“Our last trip to Hawaii will be definitely remembered by the wonderful sounds of Mr. Smith’s piano playing. I have never heard a pianist and singer like Scott Smith. He has a unique sound. Scott Smith’s improvisation explores scales and harmony way beyond standard Western/USA tempered piano playing. His “left hand” tastefully introducing bass to the piano, left us breathless evening after evening.”
